The tap water should go to which one first---the ceramic one or the one with metal deduction (the one you are shipping to us for replacement).The B-2 metal reduction filter (or any specialty element filter) is the one which is installed in the FIRST filter housing. The ceramic filter element is almost ALWAYS installed as the last stage of filtration.
