Doulton counter top (single canister) water filter conversion into undersink.

I have a Doulton counter top (single canister) water filter-model HPC/UP and now live in a home that has a kitchen faucet with pull out sprayer, so I know I can't use my filter on top of the counter. Would I be able to use the under the counter converter kit and still use the filter I have?
Yes, the kit to convert single canister countertop water filter into under the sink  is perfect for your situation.
However, it does not include a water filter faucet, which you would need to purchase, as well. Please take a look at our filtered water faucets selection here:

Portable water filters for fluoride-how to install specialty cartridges

Hi, it's been awhile since I ordered replacement candles for my GSS-Mini. Is the 2.75"x5" (L) Imperial SuperSterasyl ATC ceramic candle the replacement for the old 4" candles?

The important thing is that it filters out Fluoride and heavy metals.
The 5" ATC does go in the GSS-Mini and it will filter out particulate, chemicals, microbes, and lead (should reduce some other heavy-metals as well).
It should not be relied upon for fluoride removal (thought it may reduce levels).  Fluoride requires a separate/dedicated specialty filter that can be added on to a system, but because of its' size, the GSS-Mini can not hold this additional element.

Thank you for your response. I've been using the GSS-Mini since 2006 and I was told  that it does filter out
fluoride. In any event, I don't test my filtered water beyond knowing that it tastes worlds better than water
straight from the tap, and I can drink it all day without feeling queasy. Plus it's yet again worlds better tasting than any "purified" water I can buy at the store.

I've looked at your other filtration systems, but I live in an apartment and the management here won't let me modify the plumbing in any way, so I don't see anything other than the GSS-Mini that I can use. But maybe I missed something that you have. Do you have a product that can completely filter out fluoride, and hopefullypharmaceutical drugs as well, that doesn't require any kind of modification of household plumbing? If not, I'll be quite happy to continue using the GSS-Mini.
The media used in the ATC filter can remove lead and reduce the levels of other heavy-metals (fluoride is considered a heavy-metal), but should not be relied upon for fluoride removal.
For apartment I would recommend the GSS2 portable filter plus 2 x CN-B2 2"x4" fluoride/heavy-metal filterelements. I'll provide the link where you can purchase these items:
http://doultonusa.com/HTML%20pages/portable_systems.htm

Using this set-up, the fluoride and pharmaceuticals will be significantly reduced to near non-detectable levels.

I received my GSS2 water filter w/specialty filters today, and just to make sure before I use it, do the fluoride/heavy metal specialty filters go in the (bottom) clean water receptacle? I don't see anywhere else for them to go. If so, should I be careful not to let the bottom fill to the point that the water would contact them? It seems like eventually the specialty filters will get dirty, and then they would contaminate the clean water, but I don't know how these work.
Also, can these filters (all 4) be scrubbed clean with a Scotch Brite pad, like the GSS-Mini's can?
The B-2 elements attach at the underside of the upper chamber, just as the Installation Instructions of Specialties Elements for Gravity Filters sent indicate. You are correct to assume that they hang in the bottom chamber. They can be in contact with the water, for they are water filters which are designed to be in contact with water at one point or another. They would be in contact with already filtered water so they should not get dirty. However, if the filter go for extended periods of non-use, you would be advised to clean all the filters and canister, and discard a batch of water before continuing to use filter.
Only the ceramic filters should be cleaned using a Scotch Brite pad.

Fluoride reduction "add-on" water filter

If I am already using the single canister Doulton Ultracarb ceramic water filter and would like to reduce fluoride, should I just buy the fluoride canister, or is something more required to add the two together?
If you are using a Doulton undersink filter system and would like to "add-on" for fluoride removal to this single housing system, please click on the following link and we will provide you with the necessary items to conveniently connect the two:
http://doultonusa.com/doulton_water_filters/fluoride-arsenic-removal-undersink-upgrade-filter.htm.

As you can see, it simply plugs into your existing filter housing on the inlet side of the install.

Whole-house Fluoride Water Filter Recommendation

We have received and reviewed your Water Analysis you sent via fax. What I would recommend is the following:

For the fluoride removal, you should consider the whole-house fluoride removal system, located here:
http://doultonusa.com/whole_house_water_filters/whole-house-fluoride-removal-filters.htm.

Activated Alumina is widely known and considered to be one of the very best and only means of filtering out fluoride from the water.
Recommended system contains a programmable back-wash valve which will flush out the filter media every 3-4 days.

For your drinking water, it is always recommended that you have a reliable point-of-use filter system. This can be installed directly underneath your sink and it will filter out suspended particles, turbidity, bacteria and cysts (micro-organisms), chlorine, herbicides, insecticides, pesticides, industrial chemicals, disinfectant by-products (THMs), lead (and other heavy-metals).
The fluoride will be already removed by your whole-house system so you would not need any more than the single housing system (100 series),  located here, using Doulton Ultracarb Ceramic Technology:
http://doultonusa.com/HTML%20pages/ip100UC.htm.

Conditioning dual canister Doulton water filter

My family uses the CP200UC countertop water filter. We use the Ceramic Ultracarb candle and the B2 Fluoride cartridge. We've been using this for years, but upon installing new cartridges today, I realize there aren't complete instructions and I've been guessing all this time at the procedure for install.
The Ultracarb ceramic candle comes with an instruction sheet that says to run 10 mins, condition 24 hrs, then run 10 more mins.
The B2 fluoride filter doesn't come with any instructions and I haven't found any further install instructions on your site. There is also no indication anywhere that I have found for which order these two filters are attached
or how to install together in consideration of the initial particles they need to flush.
For example, maybe I don't want to have the ceramic filter's dust clog up the B2 carbon filter? Or maybe since I see the carbon on the inside of the unit being released, that it's the reverse?

So here's what I've been doing. I hope you will confirm or correct:
- First, I install the ceramic filter to do the 24 hr conditioning and flush. I do it by itself so that it doesn't effect the B2. I install this ceramic filter in the first position, filtering the water before it gets to the B2.

- then I install the B2 filter and run for ten  minutes. This is in the second position so that it filters the water after the candle. I do not know if it needs to be conditioned for 24 hours etc.

I hope you can clear this up for me. I'd like to maximize the effectiveness of this system.
It is wise to flush the candles separately for the first ten minutes. The following day, you can flush them both at the same time for another 5-10 minutes and then it's ready for use.
Install the ceramic filter in the second canister (last filter) before the water comes out of the filter spigot.

Ceragrav model LP5

I am a missionary in Angola, Africa with a family of four. We host visitors frequently. I am interested in purchasing a Ceragrav model LP5. I understand that it can hold up to 5 candles. How many would be best for our family?
The LP5 comes with 2 elements which can produce 20 gallons, if needed, of fine filtered water in a 24hr period. Thats almost a gallon per hour.
Each additional element is an extra ten gallons per day.
Each Imperial Supersterasyl  element is good for 750 gallons. For a family of four depending
on how much water you use, two elements can last you 1 year before you need to replace them.

Hard water affect on ceramic filter

I have very hard water. Will that affect my ceramic water filter as it would an RO kind?
Hard water will not affect these systems. Dissolved minerals in which makes up hardness, will pass right through the ceramic filter and these healthy minerals will remain intact.

Servicing undersink ceramic water filter

I have a 3 cylinder Doulton unit under my sink. I'm at a loss how to get the cartridges out. The water stream from the faucet is nearly just a trickle now and I really need the filters changed.
I have the replacement filters, but just cannot figure out how to get the plastic sleeves undone. I didn't get any instructions when my plumber installed it and he came over about 8 months ago and took the filters out, rinsed them and that did the trick (the unit was only in about 12 months).

I got as far as the top off, took out 8 screws, a plastic piece came off the three cylinders and then I see these cylinders have a rubber seal holding them into the unit. So, I just put it all back together and now I'm really frustrated because I just don't know what to do. My plumber is out of commission so I can't get him to help. Can you??

A: 1. Shut-off the water to the filter. Open the filter faucet up to remove back pressure built-up. Wait 10 minutes.
2. Unscrew the filter housings (turn left (clockwise direction if underink). There should be no reason to remove any screws. The screws are only meant to mount the filters to the bracket. The filter housings are the white canisters that have the cartridges inside.
These are simply unscrewed so you have access to your cartridges.
3. Unscrew the filter cartridges and replace with new ones or just clean the ceramic candle (most likely labeled Ultracarb).
4. Put everything back together and turn shut-off valve back on.
Inspect for leaks.

Customer feedback:
Thank you for providing these instructions!  It worked!   The problem was that the plumber that installed the unit had the cylinders screwed in so tight I could not budge them.  I was able to get someone to look at the unit this past weekend, he was able to get the cylinders detached, I was able to flush the filters and now the unit is working just fine!  I love this water filtration system!!!  My water is horrible and even with a water softener, I won't drink it.  However, with the Doulton filters, I can drink the water!  THANK YOU for a terrific product!!

A Better Way to Filter Water

I was sold on Doulton filters a few years ago when I was in Nairobi, Kenya, visiting my parents, and we were vacationing in a Mombasa bungalow where the water supply was from a cistern holding rainwater collected off the roof of the building. We used a portable, gravity-drip Doulton filter system, and the water quality was, frankly, excellent. I will not own a water filter that doesn't have at least one Doulton 10-inch Imperial filter in it.

I am continually surprised, when I go into Lowes or Home Depot, that they seem mainly to push these reverse osmosis filters. They're always the most prominent items in their water filter sections, followed by ridiculous things like Pur pitcher filters. RO filters are inefficient and waste fresh water the world doesn't have. Pitcher filters are... well... enough said. Why haven't the big box stores caught on, that there's a much better way to filter water?

Thanks!

Rodney

Used Ultracarb (or any ceramic filter cartridge ) disposal ideas?

Hello,
I have been all over the web, including your company website, but I can't find any suggestions about recycling or other creative disposal methods for used Ultracarb candles. Do you have any ideas other than throwing them in the trash?

You can break up and spread the ceramic filter elements in your garden soil to help prevent pest infestation. The cap itself can be recycled. We highly appreciate your environmental conscious consideration.

IP100SC undersink water filter system replacements

Last year I purchased a IP100SC undersink water filter system and had it installed by a plumber. I now want to replace the cartidge. I purchased an Ultracarb ceramic water filter candle as a replacement but not certain that I bought the correct candle for this system.
Can you help?
Last two letters in the model name stand for:
SC- Supercarb, UC- Ultracarb, MC- Megacarb. All elements are interchangeable.
They differ in capacity and contaminants removal- please refer to Comparison table for the pressure filters candles.

Help me to decide which type/style water filter I may need

I am interested in purchasing a water filter, but there are so many on the
market, I am confused. Can you help me decide which type/style I may need
I would like to have it for the kitchen and on my refrigerator, is this
possible and what would the cost be, who would have to install it, how often

Would the filter need to be changed? Thank you for your time and help
Are you on city water or well water?
From under-sink water filter Model IP100UC (Ultracarb) $249.00 USD filtered water can be brought to your fridge from the sink base cabinet using 25 or 35 ft Kit for ice maker or refrigerator ($19.95 or $21.55).
Yes the replacement Ultracarb cartridge ($59) have to be changed. The change frequency is every 6 months based on typical household of 4 using the filtered water for drinking and cooking.
Installation is DIY or hire a handy person that knows how to use players and screwdriver.

Filter for just the cold water tap at the kitchen sink

I have a concrete lined shallow well at my mountain cabin that yields very soft water which is clear and tastes OK, but slowly stains toilet tanks to a dark brown color. I am advised that the brown is due to the action of bacteria that live off the iron in the granitic soil in my location. While the brown stain is no problem, recent tests show that the water also flunks current total coliform tests, but is negative for fecal coliform.

I'm considering a filter for just the cold water tap at the kitchen sink, which would be installed in a 1/2" PVC vertical pipe. My concern is that the filter automatically drain when the rest of the house plumbing is drained, as it often is, since the cabin is left unheated in freezing weather.

Do you make a filter than can be mounted so that the cartridge is horizontal, and will drain when the whole house is drained, without special intervention?
The brown stains usually indicates that your water may have tannins which are very common with shallow wells. Total coliform is also common as coliform exist everywhere.

We carry 3 piece commercial filter w/3/4" ports you reduce it to 1/2" which can be installed in any position. When all drained out simply unscrew the sump, remove the ceramic cartridge and make sure you air drye for at least 24 hrs. before store it away.

To see the filter picture/specs is similar to one of the following link:

Whole house carbon filter will remove the TCE

In my hometown we have 2 water problems. Nitrates from fertilizer and also isolated pockets of TCE from an industrial spill.

Does your filter remove nitrates?
Does it remove TCE?

If TCE is in the water supply a whole house carbon filter will remove the TCE, it will minimize ingestion and inhalation exposures. As for the nitrates removal we recommend point-of-use counter-top or under-sink filter just for the drinking and cooking water which all of these filters are available.
Do you know how much Trichloroethene and nitrates in your water. The TCE is a nasty VOC and you should not have it in your water.

Water filter for a trip overland in a vehicle in Africa.

i am planning a trip overland in a vehicle in africa - i am wondering what filters you would recommend. i am travelling alone.

currently i am considering the GSS2 - could you advise what the filter capacity is (overall litres/gallons processed by each filter?)

alternatively, what is the difference between the GSS2 and the Sterasyl? I see the sterasyl has a capacity of 50 000 litres.

could you please advise which of the above (or other) would be the best product for me under the above circumstances.

could you please advise soonest.

GSS2 is the gravity water filter supplied complete with two 2"x7" Supersterasyl ceramic candles, wing nuts, gaskets, spigot and filter lid.
Supersterasyl is a Sterasyl candle with coconut shell activated carbon inside to improve the taste and odor of the water in addition to remove organic chemicals such as pesticides, herbicides and industrial solvents. The carbon capacity using to filter out city chlorinated water is 750 gallons per candle, the ceramic shell is good for many 1000's gallons.
Spare set of candles recommended.

Industrial version of water filters made out of stainless steel

I work in ... LLC. Our product is widely known for its novelty presentation of chemical lights.
In an effort to integrate some of our components into the manufacturing plant, the Company has decided to begin making some of it's own chemical blending.
To that end I need an industrial version of your water candle filters made out of stainless steel (304 or 316) using some form of inert filter element.
Our product will have a very light viscosity with it's primary element being di-butil benzoate (oily).
The blend, prior to passing thru your candle filter will have passed thru a leaf filter to remove 99.9% of solid material.
The blending process will be in batch form, making about 4 to 6 (55 gallon) batches per shift at a process temp of 60C.
I need information on what filter can fit my needs and what would be the cost of such a unit.
You can perform pilot test study with HSS-1 304L stainless steel filter and ceramic micro-cartridge rather than candle. The candles fits Doulton housing only which you can use Doulton 316 stainless steel filter housing.
HSS-1 can be found on the following link:
